Offensive woes at Ole Miss have been a thing of the past since Lane Kiffin took over. Even though Kiffin lost his main quarterback and offensive coordinator after his first two seasons at Ole Miss, the Rebels rallied by signing Jaxson Dart and Charlie Weis Jr.
Ole Miss has not looked back offensively with this core.
Going into the 2024 season, Ole Miss’ offense might reach new heights with a Heisman-caliber quarterback surrounded by a deep supporting cast of pass catchers, offensive linemen, and running backs, not to mention Weis Jr. joining him for a third season.
It sure does pay to have an explosive offense like the one Ole Miss has. Kiffin is among the top paid coaches in the country, quarterback is the most expensive position on the NIL market and Weis Jr. recently received a raise within his contract.
Earlier this offseason Weis Jr. got a $250,000 bump in his salary, pushing his worth up to $1.65 million for the upcoming season. At the time of those reports, Weis Jr. was the third-highest paid offensive coordinator, but other offseason moves and reported contracts have shuffled the pecking order. Weis Jr. also checks in as the SEC’s highest-paid offensive coordinator.

Following a strong 2021 season in which Ole Miss went 10-3, the Rebels stepped back in 2022. The Rebels began the 2022 season 7-0 but crumbled over the season as the offensive regressed from the previous year.
However, Weis’ offense improved significantly in his second season at Ole Miss. The Rebels averaged 35 points per game and had the highest points (456) and touchdowns (57) during Kiffin’s tenure (2023).
That being said, 2024 can be an even better offensive season if Weis Jr. can unlock the full potential of incorporating key transfers. There’s only one football and plenty of mouths to feed, but Ole Miss found a recipe for success in that department with three 700+ yard receivers one season ago.
One difference in 2024 for Weis Jr. is that he will not be sharing the offensive coordinator title that he has been the past two seasons at Ole Miss. Previous Co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach John David Baker accepted the open OC job at ECU this offseason.
