Enzo Maresca’s pre-game worries were put to rest as Leicester City secured their “best win” of the season and reclaimed first place in the Championship.

By defeating Blackburn 4-1, City won their sixth straight away league game, tying a club record. This victory put City back above Ipswich in the standings. Maresca was especially happy with the outcome because he had been concerned about how his squad would fare against what he considered to be the finest opponent they had yet to face.

The game was competitive despite the three-goal lead, as Blackburn gave City plenty of trouble with their pressing and possession play. Maresca was pleased with how the 90 minutes played out, although he acknowledged that his team lacked confidence more than normal because of the way Rovers’ goal was scored—Sammie Szmodics converted a City goal kick that had gone astray.

Since we began, it was our most significant victory, according to Maresca. “Because of the opponent, I was a little concerned. They are excellent. They are the best team we have ever played in terms of how they play.

They are a challenging foe. The full-backs are on the outside, sometimes inside, while the wingers alternate between those positions. Because of their constant movement, it is challenging to establish a gameplan off the ball that follows your desire to press.

It was our best victory thus far since I was a little concerned. Off the ball, we improved significantly during the past 30 minutes. We faltered during the opening ten minutes of the second half before picking ourselves up and restarting the game as we had planned.

“On the ball, we had some excellent moments, but I think the goal we let up hurt our confidence a little bit. We lost confidence when we gave up a goal in that manner. We must absorb and remember it.
