The Boston Celtics have entered their troll era completely.

Wenyen Gabriel, a seasoned big man, is reportedly close to signing a contract with the Celtics, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic on Sunday. According to Charania, Gabriel will be vying for a reserve position in Boston’s frontcourt.

Last offseason, the 26-year-old Gabriel played a significant role in the rotation of the rival Los Angeles Lakers. He made 68 appearances for the purple and gold, and his 59.6 field goal percentage led all eligible Lakers. Despite having unimpressive counting stats (5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game), Gabriel’s second-unit defense and contagious energy helped shift the tides at the conclusion of quarters.

The frontcourt depth of the Celtics is now lacking, especially after this week’s significant deal for Jrue Holiday required them to give up some size. Gabriel should have a good chance to fill in for Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford for Boston in the low post.
