The Mets have designated catcher Joe Hudson for assignment, according to a team announcement. His roster slot will go to teammate backstop Luis Torrens, who has been restored off the paternity list. Hudson, a journeyman, was added to the Mets’ roster earlier this month in preparation for their game against the Phillies in London. He only appeared in one major league game and did not bat.

This brief stint was the 33-year-old Hudson’s first appearance on a major league roster since 2020. He’s tallied 18 games in the majors over the course of a 13-year pro career, picking up 33 plate appearances in that short time. Hudson is 5-for-30 with a double, two walks and six strikeouts in the majors. The former sixth-rounder is a career .229/.333/.398 hitter in six Triple-A seasons — including a .237/.392/.441 showing in 21 games with the Mets’ Syracuse affiliate this year.

Mets may have suitors for resurgent RHP ahead of MLB trade deadline

The New York Mets were about a week away from becoming sellers at the MLB trade deadline on July 30, but a recent seven-game winning run changed that.

While the Mets are expected to make moves during the next month, one crucial player’s career in New York is set to come to an end. According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Milwaukee Brewers will actively seek starting pitchers to improve their roster. With that high priority comes a connection to Mets standout Luis Severino.

MLB reporter links Mets star Luis Severino to the Brewers ahead of trade deadline

Bowden described Severino as one of the Brewers’ best alternatives (h/t Patrick McAvoy of Fan Nation’s Inside the Mets): “Position targets: Starting pitching (and) relief pitching,” he stated. “SPs: Jesús Luzardo, Luis Severino, Tyler Anderson, Garrett Crochet, Erick Fedde, Jack Flaherty, and Trevor Williams…”The Brewers have made it obvious to the other teams that they are pleased with their position player pool but hope to upgrade their starting and relief pitching at the trade deadline.”
