The New York Knicks advanced to the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, nearly defeating the Indiana Pacers before losing to Coach Rick Carlisle’s club.

Precious Achiuwa, a Nigerian power forward, provided surprising output for the Knicks this season, averaging 7.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. As free agency unfolds, Achiuwa is attracting the attention of more NBA teams. The restricted free agent made a remark about maybe returning that circulated on Wednesday.

The announcement came as Jalen Brunson responded to a fan’s Jaylen Brown mix-up. According to rumors, the Knicks are negotiating a trade with the Utah Jazz to identify Isaiah Hartenstein’s successor.

HoopsHype.com stated that Achiuwa “likes the Knicks and is open to returning,” according to league familiar to the website.

Achiuwa was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Knicks. He received interest from “several contending teams” on the open market according to Ian Begley of SportsNet New York. The 6-foot-8 Knicks forward has strong ties to the city, having played high school ball at Our Savior Lutheran in the Bronx, New York and St. Bendict’s Prep in Newark, New Jersey.

Precious Achiuwa provides Coach Tom Thibodeau and the Knicks with a powerful interior presence that will be needed now that Isaiah Hartenstein has moved to Oklahoma City.

Knicks’ Outlook For 2024 Offseason 

The Knicks have made a major splash this offseason, acquiring Mikal Bridges in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets for a slew of draft picks and selecting French shooting guard Pacome Dadiet in the first round.

The Knicks’ roster for next season appears to be extremely strong at the guard and forward positions, but Hartenstein’s departure to Oklahoma City has created a huge vacuum in the middle.
