Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose joined his friend Billy Joel on stage at his final Madison Square Garden concert in New York City on Thursday night (25th July).

Billed as ‘The Final Show of the Record-Breaking Residency’, the concert was Billy Joel’s 150th concert at the world-famous New York venue over a 10-year period.

Axl Rose, who has previously shared the stage with Billy Joel, walked on stage 13 songs into the three-hour set wearing in shades and a sparkly suit.

After hugging Billy, Axl sang on a rendition of Wings’ ‘Live and Let Die’, which was, of course, famously covered by Guns N’ Roses.

The pair then performed AC/DC’s ‘Highway to Hell’ before Axl returned to The Garden stage to perform on the final song of the final residency show, Billy’s 1980 single ‘You May Be Right.’

You can watch performances of all three songs here:

Axl Rose previously performed ‘Highway To Hell’ with Billy at a 2017 concert at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium.

When Billy Joel’s final Madison Square Garden show was first announced, he said: “When this franchise run at Madison Square Garden began in January 2014, I said I’d play one show a month ‘as long as the demand continues.’

“I never imagined I’d still be playing one show a month 10 years later. It’s a testament to my amazing fans, and the 1.6 million people from around the world who have already been part of this historic residency.

“Now, after ten incredible years, it feels right to conclude this journey with my 150th lifetime show at the Garden.”

Although Billy Joel’s residency has been taking place over a decade, he has been performing concerts at Madison Square Garden since the late 1970s.

Now he has finished his residency, Billy is set to perform his only UK show in just a couple of weeks’ time. The singer will be performing in Cardiff on Friday 9th August 2024.
