Josh Allen is one of the best football players in the NFL currently. He has broken plenty of records in his first six seasons alone. One of the more insane records he currently holds is the only player in NFL history to record 40+ touchdowns in four consecutive seasons. With his 4 touchdown performance against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, he is on pace to have five consecutive seasons with 40+ touchdowns.
Along with this current pace to etch another 40+ touchdown season in the record books, he is also on pace to set the record for having the most touchdowns in a player’s first seven seasons by week three. Unfortunately, having four touchdowns in each of the next two games is a little bold. Although, with the way Allen plays against the Miami Dolphins, he very well could have four touchdowns.
As mentioned, Allen is second all time, trailing Patrick Mahomes by six total touchdowns (Mahomes with 231). Even though Mahomes was drafted a year earlier than Allen, Mahomes did not start his rookie season. Allen also has tied Dan Marino with 225 total touchdowns as well. Last year, Allen had broken the record for most touchdowns in a player’s first six seasons, and he topped that same Hall of Famer in Marino last year who previously held the record.
The vibes are definitely high right now for these Buffalo Bills after their win on Sunday. Unfortunately, Allen is dealing with a left hand injury. The good news is though that Sean McDermott announced on Monday during his press conference that Allen is cleared to practice Monday and will play against Miami on Thursday. Hopefully, the left hand injury doesn’t affect too much of what Allen does both taking snaps and handing the ball off.
Another record that Allen also accomplished on Sunday against the Cardinals is tying the record for most games with 2+ passing touchdowns and 2+ rushing touchdowns (4). Allen is now tied with one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in Steve Young. Definitely a great accomplishment for Allen, and he could potentially get another game this year and be the leader in that stat line.
What is even more impressive about Allen and why these records he keeps breaking is such a testament to the player Allen is. He was a highly touted quarterback out of college, but he was definitely a raw prospect. Couple that with a lack of weapons his rookie year and not having a great supporting cast to help him develop even further shows how well Allen has developed on his own.
These records that were set by these great quarterbacks in NFL history arguably had some of the best teams surrounding them, or at least an above average team. Allen most likely could go down as one of the top ten or fifteen quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL, and that is all due to how hard he works at developing his game and how much of a competitive player he is.
