On January 12, 2025, Clemson University football officially announced its 2024 team awards, recognizing outstanding performances, leadership, and dedication from players throughout the season. The Tigers had a rollercoaster year, marked by high expectations and a few challenges, but ultimately, the players showcased resilience and teamwork, which was evident in their individual accolades.

Most Valuable Player (MVP)
The most coveted award of the evening, the Most Valuable Player (MVP), was given to quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. Despite a season filled with adversity, Uiagalelei remained a consistent force for the Tigers, showcasing his skills both through the air and on the ground. His leadership was pivotal in guiding Clemson through a tough ACC schedule and was a driving factor behind several key victories. With a strong arm, poise under pressure, and clutch performances, DJ solidified his place as the team’s most valuable player. This recognition marked a fitting cap to a career-defining season.

Offensive Player of the Year
Wide receiver Antonio Williams earned the Offensive Player of the Year honor after an explosive campaign. Williams, a dynamic threat on the outside, was one of the most reliable targets for the Tigers’ offense. He posted career-high numbers in receiving yards, touchdowns, and catches. His ability to stretch the field and make spectacular catches in critical moments made him a go-to weapon for Clemson’s offense. His chemistry with Uiagalelei elevated the passing game, providing a much-needed spark for the Tigers’ offense throughout the year.

Defensive Player of the Year
On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Trenton Simpson was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Simpson’s relentless pursuit of the ball and high football IQ were on full display during the 2024 season. He was a force in the Tigers’ front seven, racking up sacks, tackles for loss, and key stops in critical moments. His ability to read offenses, shed blockers, and make plays all over the field made him an invaluable asset to Clemson’s defense. Simpson’s leadership and playmaking ability played a significant role in the team’s success on that side of the ball.

Special Teams Player of the Year
B.T. Potter took home the Special Teams Player of the Year award. As one of the best kickers in college football, Potter was nearly automatic for Clemson, hitting clutch field goals and extra points throughout the season. His consistent leg helped the Tigers win several close games and kept them in contention during tight matchups. Potter’s contributions on special teams were instrumental in setting the tone for the Tigers in key moments.

True Freshman of the Year
In a season full of bright young stars, Cole Turner was honored as the True Freshman of the Year. Turner quickly became a key contributor in the Tigers’ secondary, showcasing maturity beyond his years. His speed, awareness, and ball skills allowed him to make an immediate impact on Clemson’s defense. Turner’s performance earned him a starting role by the end of the season and set the foundation for what looks to be a promising career in a Tigers uniform.

Leadership Award
The Leadership Award, given to the player who displayed exemplary leadership both on and off the field, went to Will Shipley. Shipley, a running back known for his versatility and toughness, demonstrated the kind of leadership that transcended statistics. His work ethic, mental toughness, and willingness to support his teammates throughout the season earned him the respect of his coaches and peers alike. As one of the most senior players on the roster, Shipley’s leadership was crucial in fostering a positive locker room atmosphere.

The 2024 team awards served as a celebration of individual excellence, and while the Tigers look ahead to the future, the contributions from these standout players will not be forgotten. Clemson’s coaching staff, players, and fans are already focused on what’s next, building on the foundation laid in this past season.
