After kicking off the season ranked and defeating Lindenwood, 48-3, the Kansas Jayhawks offense has since fallen off a cliff.

The Jayhawks have scored less than 30-points in all four of their games after the 2024 season opener. Kansas notably has had issues taking care of the ball on offense as well in the midst of the scoring issues that the team is facing.

Kansas opened the season ranked in the top 25, and now must fight just to keep bowl eligiblity for the remainder of the season. Quarterback Jalon Daniels has been a catalyst in the success of the offense as the team can potentially win games when Daniels is playing well. However, Daniels has struggled throwing the ball, with eight interceptions and just five touchdown passes.

Daniels has also had his fair share of fumbles this season but has been more valuable running the ball than he has been passing the ball. Instead, the Kansas Jayhawks seem committed to using Daniels in other ways, which has led to the team struggling severely.

Amidst the struggles, Kansas Jayhawks fans have been calling for the firing of offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes.

More than his horrible play calling, Jeff Grimes has ruined the CULTURE of this team. Seeing some of his quotes, especially the one at BYU where he basically said “I called the right play the players just ran it wrong”, has me more convinced of that than ever. Dudes a loser.

Grimes was a two time finalist for the Broyles Award, given out to the best college football offensive coordinator each year. Grimes is largely credited with the development of former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson. The coordinator was fired in 2023 after the Baylor Bears suffered massive regressions on the offensive side of the ball.

Kansas Jayhawks Football Staff Might Need Serious Changes Following 2024 Season

While fans desperately want to see Grimes fired, it does not seem like a decision that the Kansas program is going to make during the season.

Kansas is currently a dumpster fire after losing four straight games and practically eliminating any chances of contending for the conference championship. The Jayhawks offense has been an issue through it all, and yet the program feels Grimes is the man for the job still.

Grimes will shift his on-field location from the sideline to the sky box moving forward after the 38-27 loss to the TCU Horned Frogs. Previously, Grimes had pre-snap alignment and coverage information relayed to him from the box by co-offensive coordinator Jim Zebrowski.
