Florida has lost 1 of its starting linebackers from 2024 to the transfer portal, with T.J. Searcy announcing on social media on Tuesday morning that he’s entering the transfer portal.
The edge rusher, who played in all 12 games for Florida this fall, had 34 tackles — 20 of them solo — while making 5 starts. The 6-foot-5, 262-pound Searcy added 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles this season. He also had 4 tackles-for-loss.
The sophomore wrote a personal message to Gators fans to show his appreciation for the 2 seasons he spent in Gainesville:
A native of Thomaston, Ga., Searcy made an impact as a freshman in 2023. He finished with 26 tackles and earned a spot on the Freshman All-SEC team. Searcy finished the 2024 regular season with a bang for the Gators defense, recording 5 tackles and a fumble recovery in Florida’s victory over Florida State.
He helped the Gators finish the regular season strong, as they went 7-5 and qualified for a bowl game. But Searcy’s post on social media on Tuesday didn’t indicate one way or another whether he plans on playing in the Gasparilla Bowl against Tulane on Friday in Tampa.
What Florida does know is that Searcy won’t be part of the Gators’ defense in 2025.
