The Detroit Lions’ top linebacker could be out for the foreseeable future. Alex Anzalone, who has played remarkably well the past two seasons, was injured during the Green Bay Packers game. Due to a potential hand/wrist injury, the ex-Saints linebacker could miss the game against his former team and possibly for an extended length of time.

Alex could be a little bit, that’s possible. Kerby (Joseph) should be good,” Dan Campbell told reporters Monday. “Jonah (Jackson), I’m assuming Jonah’s not playing until he tells me he’s playing, and then I’ll know. Other than that, we’ll see.” In a recently penned feature article on the team’s website, Anzalone expressed he was excited for his fresh start in Detroit, after starting his career with New Orleans

“I signed a one-year deal with the Lions in 2021, and we were both really excited for not only a fresh start, but to experience the four seasons,” Anzalone wrote. “Lindsey was born and raised in Florida, so she had never experienced the beauty of fall or the cold of winter.”

Since arriving in Detroit, Anzalone has become a leader on defense and in the Metro-Detroit community. After signing two one-year contracts, Anzalone was rewarded for his stellar play with a long-term contract extension this past offseason. This season, with added security, the 29-year-old is among the top linebackers in coverage this season.

Furthermore, his locker-room leadership has benefited rookies Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes. Barnes and Anzalone have been great friends over the last few seasons. Malcolm Rodriguez, Campbell, and Barnes may be called upon to take on extra responsibility in Aaron Glenn’s defense in the coming weeks. This week also marks the birth of the veteran linebacker’s second child.
