Few expected the Green Bay Packers to compete for a spot in the NFL Playoffs this season. After all, they dealt Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets in exchange for Jordan Love, their first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. They also allowed some veterans to leave via free agency and filled out their squad with rookies and other young players, particularly on offense.

While Green Bay has not had a winning record since Week Three, their 5-6 record has them just a half game out of the final NFC wild card spot. Should they beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, they will overtake the Seattle Seahawks for that spot.

In other words, despite all that has been said about them before and during the season, the Packers are in contention for a playoff spot. This is an important factor to keep in mind, not just because of how thrilling it is for the team, but also because it makes them theoretical players in late-season free agent signings.

The Arizona Cardinals Recently Waived 3-Time Pro Bowl Tight End Zach Ertz

When the Cardinals first traded for Zach Ertz in 2021, they did so taking a chance on a player that had struggled to stay healthy in 2020. After making three straight Pro Bowls between 2017 and 2019, Ertz had a hard time staying on the field. As a result, the Philadelphia Eagles decided to trade him midway through the 2021 season.

Ertz thrived in first half-season with the Cardinals, hauling in 56 receptions for 574 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games that year. Unfortunately, his injury woes returned in 2022, and he only played in 10 games. This year, he has been limited to just seven games and Arizona has been awful. In the games he has played, Ertz has 27 receptions for 187 yards and a single touchdown.

Ertz was waived by the Cardinals earlier this week. He is presently a free agent because no NFL team has claimed him.
