The New York Mets have bolstered their pitching rotation by finalizing a three-year, $75 million deal with left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea, marking a significant addition to their roster. The agreement underscores the Mets’ commitment to fortifying their starting rotation as they aim to make a strong push in the upcoming MLB season.
Manaea, 32, is coming off a solid season with the San Francisco Giants, where he showcased his durability and effectiveness. In 2023, he posted a 4.12 ERA across 150 innings pitched, with 145 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.18. Known for his deceptive delivery and strong command, Manaea brings a veteran presence to a Mets rotation that has seen considerable turnover this offseason.
For the Mets, this signing addresses a pressing need for consistent arms in their rotation. With the departure of some key pitchers and uncertainties surrounding the health and performance of others, Manaea provides reliability and experience. The three-year deal, averaging $25 million annually, reflects the organization’s confidence in his ability to contribute at a high level.
Manaea’s addition pairs him with fellow lefty José Quintana and right-handers Kodai Senga and Tylor Megill, creating a more balanced rotation. His ability to eat innings and keep hitters off balance will be critical as the Mets look to compete in a stacked National League East that includes the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies.
“I’m excited to join the Mets and be part of a team with such high aspirations,” Manaea said in a statement. “I’m ready to give it my all and contribute to bringing success to this franchise.”
With Manaea in the fold, the Mets continue to demonstrate their aggressive approach to building a competitive roster, leaving fans eager for the 2024 season to begin.
