A former Texas wideout, revealed on social media Thursday that he will join the Rebels and coach Barry Odom.
Cain, a 6-foot-3-inch receiver from New Orleans, arrived at Texas in 2021. He redshirted his first season with the Longhorns, then caught eight passes in 13 games for 201 yards, including a 108-yard performance against Washington in the 2022 Alamo Bowl. He appeared in nine games this season, catching one pass for 13 yards.
The commitment reunites Cain with UNLV offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, who coached wide receivers at Texas in 2022.
The Rebels can certainly benefit from more receiver help. Junior Ricky White recorded 1,386 receiving yards to set the single-season program record, but no other UNLV player had more than 511 yards this season.

Tre Harris had immediate chemistry with the rest of the Ole Miss Rebels offense as soon as this season kicked off. That much is certain. Even though he was not 100 percent healthy for the entirety of the 2023 campaign, Harris led the Rebels in receiving with 851 yards and eight scores through 11 games played. After this showing, he could have declared for the NFL Draft, but he and so many other players on Ole Miss’ roster have elected to return for the 2024 season. Why? Because they feel like something special could be in store next fall.
“It was challenging, for sure,” Harris said on Tuesday. “It was in the back of my mind throughout the season, but as the season came to a close, it definitely got bigger and bigger in my mind. For me, the biggest thing was being able to come back to a reliable offense and that’s still going to be able to improve my skillset. That’s definitely something I feel like I can do here. “I’m comfortable with my teammates, comfortable with the coaches, comfortable with the quarterback, and, on top of that, they got the 12-team playoff. We want to go there, and we want to win a championship.
Quarterback Jaxson Dart has not officially stated whether or not he plans to return to Oxford in 2024, but it’s certain that he would have a potent offense at his disposal if he chose to. With the expansion of the playoff, the return of proven talent and more skill acquired through recruiting and the transfer portal, Harris feels like Ole Miss is in an even better situation that it was this year where it won 10 games. “We all saw how the season went,” Harris said, “and we felt like if we do it again, we know we could go farther. We all pretty much came to one thing: we do it one more time, we know where we’re going after. Next year just improves our chances with 12 teams.” The Rebels still have a chance to win 11 games in a single season for the first time in program history, should they take down the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Dec. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, and the game will be televised on ESPN.
