Quarterback Jayden Maiava left college football experts and fans scratching their heads Tuesday night when it was announced that he would be flipping his commitment to USC just days after announcing his committment to the Georgia Bulldogs. Maiava is a 6-foot-4 quarterback from Las Vegas, Nevada, and was the Bulldogs’ most recent addition to a Georgia quarterback room that was seemingly loaded with talent already. His insertion into the Bulldogs 2024 recruiting class began to pose questions about other Bulldog quarterbacks’ futures such as Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi

But those questions were quickly answered as it was revealed that Maiava would no longer be heading to Athens for the 2024 season. With his sudden departure, the Georgia Bulldogs are now posed with a new question, however, what should the team do next? Head coach Kirby Smart has gone on record multiple times stating that he and his staff aim to have four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster and that the number would be the team’s goal moving forward.

“Our hard number is four. We want to be at four, and we’re not at four. So again, we’ll look at our options and see what we can do there. We would like to be at four, but that’s our goal.” -Kirby Smart during his National Signing Day press conference (12/20/23) Smart’s actions have supported this statement as they were set to take two quarterbacks in the 2024 recruiting class before the shocking de-commitment of 5-star quarterback Dylan Raiola.

While Georgia still sitting at just three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster for the 2024 season is certainly not the end of the world. Expect the Bulldogs to continue to make moves in the transfer portal to fill their desired fourth spot at the quarterback position. Georgia Scholarship Quarterbacks on Roster Carson Beck (Class of 2020) Gunner Stocken (Class of 2022) Ryan Puglisi (Class of 2024).
