On Thursday, a former Washington defensive back committed to the University of Florida, giving the Gators another significant addition.

Transferring defensive backs to Washington Asa Turner visited Gainesville over the weekend and decided to commit to Florida.

Turner, who has appeared in 43 games with Washington, will be a sixth-year senior in 2023. However, injuries kept him out of the majority of the 2023 campaign.

Will Harris, the defensive backs coach, is well-known to the defensive back because Harris coached the player at Washington before the assistant coach joined the NFL.

Turner had a fantastic 2022 season, recording 52 tackles and two interceptions, which earned him a spot on the All Pac-12 third team during the preseason in 2023.

Turner will enroll in classes and go through spring practice after committing to Florida, where he will likely compete for playing time in the Gators’ inexperienced secondary.

Defensive end D’Antre Robinson, who left Texas, and defensive back Jameer Grimsley, who left Alabama, both committed to the Gators over the past several days. Both players were in the Class of 2024.

Turner, who has begun classes in Gainesville, is probably the final transfer to be added to the squad for spring practice.
