Justin Fields’ future with the Chicago Bears remains uncertain. The squad is projected to use their first overall pick in the 2018 draft to select a player such as Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, who will serve as the team’s future quarterback.

This presumably means there will be no room in Chicago for Fields, who is coming off a poor 2023 season.

New Chicago Bears OC Shan Waldron Adds More Fire to Flame

The Bears have hired Sahne Waldron as their new offensive coordinator, a move that will have a huge impact on Chicago’s plans for the next season, notably at quarterback.

Waldron spoke to the press on Thursday, sharing his opinions on the team’s quarterback situation:

“Waldron said that ‘adaptability’ is the hallmark of his offense because he believes the Bears are going to be able ‘adjust the scheme to the player’s skillset’ once they have installed that player in the offense,” Josh Alper, a reporter for PFT, wrote.

This isn’t exactly a vote of confidence for Fields. Rather, Waldron is essentially stating that his approach will be able to adjust to whoever ends up becoming Chicago’s starting quarterback – whether it’s Fields, Williams, Maye, or anyone else.

“I totally believe that,” Waldron added. “In my previous encounters with different quarterbacks and experience levels, whether as a coordinator or a position coach, I felt this way. I’ve believed that different quarterbacks have been able to enter the system, learn it fast — which begins with us being able to teach it in a good and effective manner so that they grasp it — and then go on to adjust because each guy’s skill set will be different. In what direction does it go? “The players really own and control that.”

If you ask me, Waldron is already well prepared for the Bears’ eventual departure from Fields.
