Former National League MVP Joey Votto may soon start wrecking mayhem at your local grocery if no MLB team signs him in free agency.

Votto went viral on Tuesday after making a benign threat on Instagram. The 40-year-old, dressed in a grizzly beard and an orange hoodie, spoke menacingly, as if he were making demands in a hostage situation. Votto’s actual danger revolved around shopping trolleys.

“I am weary of this. “If someone doesn’t sign me, I’m not going to put my shopping carts away,” Votto declared.

Votto then left his shopping cart in disarray.

It’s not the first time Votto has gone viral for his social media activity. Last season, the six-time All-Star made a funny prediction that his Cincinnati Reds will win the World Series with the help of aliens. It didn’t come true.

The Reds declined to exercise Votto’s option for the 2024 season. Despite retirement speculations, Votto is convinced he still has much to offer at this juncture in his career. However, based on recent comments by Reds GM Nick Krall, the next stage of Votto’s career will not be in Cincinnati.

Votto played only 65 games for the Reds last season. The 17-year-old pro had a career-low.202 at the plate, including 14 home runs and 38 RBIs.
