Breaking ; Reds in a blockbuster deal with Jays Over Blue Jays Bo Bichette trade with Elly De La Cruz.

The Toronto Blue Jays could look to make several moves this season if they don’t have much success and are outside of a playoff spot at the 2025 trade deadline. While they have already made scant moves in hopes of making it back to the playoffs next season (adding Andres Giménez, trading Spencer Horwitz), there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the team.

One player they could consider moving is superstar shortstop Bo Bichette, who struggled with an injury last season and only had four home runs and 31 RBI with a .225 batting average. At 26 years old, he could fetch the Blue Jays a hefty return, should they be open to trading him in hopes of either bolstering their current roster or focusing on the future. Despite “selling low,” Bichette still remains one of the game’s young stars, despite a down year. One team that could look to bring in Bichette is the Cincinnati Reds.

Do the Reds make sense for a Blue Jays Bo Bichette trade with Elly De La Cruz?

The first thing to note is that the Reds already have a superstar at shortstop in Elly De La Cruz. At 22 years old, De La Cruz has shown signs of being a superstar for a long time in MLB, and showcased his offensive power last season, hitting 25 home runs and adding 76 RBI with a .259 batting average through 618 at-bats.

However, it would be a simple fix to move Bichette in the infield and shift some of the players’ positions around. Bichette could fit into a second base position with the Reds easily, as he has played it previously with the Blue Jays, which would strengthen the Reds’ defensive play. Matt McLain playing center field in the Arizona Fall League hints the Reds might be invested in a position change.

The issue would be the trade return, considering Bichette’s age and his skill when he is healthy. When he isn’t dealing with injuries, he is arguably a top-10 shortstop in MLB, and is entering his walk year. Considering the Reds would like to try and compete for a playoff spot this season, them targeting Bichette still makes sense.

What Does a Blue Jays-Reds Bo Bichette Trade Look Like?

It’s tough to correctly predict a trade, but it’s easy to guess the Blue Jays would want a hefty return for Bichette if they choose to try and gauge the market for him, even entering his walk year. In return, the Reds would likely have to part with a package of something like Edwin Arroyo, Alfredo Duno, and Luke Holman.

That would be their Nos. 3, 7 and 13 prospects, per MLB Pipeline. That’s a massive deal with an MLB-ready player in Arroyo, but it’s what the Blue Jays should consider asking for in exchange for the two-time All-Star.

Hopefully, the Blue Jays don’t even have to consider moving Bichette and can focus on pushing for a playoff spot while attempting to lock him up on a long-term contract. At the end of the day, nobody wants to see the Blue Jays lose Bichette, but if worst comes to worst, they may have to consider all options.
