When free agency began, many fans felt Boyd’s time with the Cincinnati Bengals was over.
However, after nearly a month of free agency, Boyd remains unsigned despite being one of the finest offensive players available. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Boyd’s hometown team, were considered a significant bidder, but the two sides have yet to reach an agreement.
According to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic, Boyd and the Steelers are unlikely to strike an agreement. Kaboly adds that the San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs were among the teams that expressed preliminary interest in signing Boyd when free agency began.
I believe it is a long shot that the two sides will come together. According to sources, Boyd was very interested in Pittsburgh at the start of the free-agency process, but the offer did not sit well with him. Boyd has attracted preliminary interest from the Chiefs, Chargers, Dolphins, Lions, and 49ers. I am very sure the ship carrying the Steelers has departed.
If you’re a Bengals fan, losing Boyd to the Lions would be the best-case situation because they compete in the NFC. Furthermore, it would be exciting to see Boyd reunite with DJ Reader and help the Lions overcome the Super Bowl hump in the same manner they did in Cincinnati.
The Lions, along with the 49ers, are among the greatest Super Bowl hopefuls in the AFC, so Boyd’s desire is understandable.
Boyd’s departure to the Chiefs would be devastating, but they could use another wideout, especially given the Rashee Rice situation.
The Chargers and Dolphins are both strong AFC playoff contenders.
Boyd may wait to sign with a team until after the upcoming NFL Draft to determine who still requires wide receiver help.
