REDS TENSION : After making a triumphant return to MLB, Wilson reportedly breaks silence on his future and sends a strong message to Reds.

Wilson threw one scoreless inning against Washington, allowing one hit and striking out one. He pitched another scoreless inning in Monday’s 6-3 win over the Phillies.

Wilson’s delivery and pitches required few adjustments following surgery.

“It’s more about having confidence in your body after that process,” that’s what he said. “It’s a long process. They indicated it may vanish quickly, in 12 months. But after going through it, I’m not sure if I believe it. Most boys, I believe, are 15, 17, or more months old. It took a lot longer than I hoped to feel like the procedure was over.”

Professional baseball may be both fun and gratifying, but it can also feel extremely brutal at times. Wilson was scheduled to return from elbow surgery for the Brewers on July 28, 2023, against the Braves. He sensed something during his final warm-up pitch.

“My lat tendon tore almost completely,” Wilson explained. “It wasn’t particularly enjoyable at the time. However, it was most likely for the better. It provided me a little more time to let my elbow to rest and heal. I let the lat heal during the offseason and felt strong heading into spring.”

Wilson, 36, went into Spring Training this year with the Dodgers on a Minor League contract, but was advised he would not make the team and was released on March 12. Three days later, he signed a one-year contract worth $1.5 million with the Reds.

Wilson was originally acquired by Cincinnati from the Yankees before the 2021 Trade Deadline, along with pitcher Luis Cessa, and received additional offers after Los Angeles released him. But the left-hander appreciated how the stars aligned to bring him back to the Reds.

“Absolutely. I enjoyed it the last time I came here. “The players, staff, and fans,” Wilson stated. I like it here. It’s good to be back here.”
