Alabama basketball has lost another player to the transfer portal, this time freshman guard Davin Cosby Jr. The freshman joins Rylan Griffen, Kris Parker, and Max Scharnowski in the transfer portal. Cosby was a four-star recruit for the 2022 class.
Cosby Jr played in 22 games in 2023-24, playing 7.8 minutes per game while scoring 3.6 points per game, on 34% three-point shooting. Down the stretch, Cosby started to see increased playing time scoring a career-high 15 points in 13 minutes. He would’ve seen an increased role in the NCAA tournament with the injury to Latrell Wrightsell but, he broke his foot in practice leading up to the tournament.
The Tide now have some holes to fill losing Aaron Estrada to graduation and Rylan Griffen, Davin Cosby, and Kris Parker to the transfer portal. The team also awaits NBA Draft decisions from Mark Sears, Grant Nelson, and Latrell Wrightsell.
All indicators point to the Alabama basketball team loading up in the transfer portal when USF guard Chris Youngblood pays a visit this weekend. So far, the team has contacted various guards and big players in their search for senior frontcourt and backcourt replacements. The Tide already has four players on the way: Derrion Reid, Aiden Sherrell, Naas Cunningham, and transfer Houston Mallette.
Major re-tool coming?
After retaining Nate Oats in Tuscaloosa, there will be no rebuilding seasons since the Tide will be major players on the transfer market each year. Following a final four run, the roster might undergo significant remodeling as the Tide pursue some of the nation’s finest transfers. We watched Nate Oats do the same thing this season despite losing three coaches and four of his top five scorers. Tuscaloosa will no longer need to rebuild; instead, it will retool.
