Jared Goff, the Detroit Lions quarterback, is in the early stages of the final year of his deal, but he told reporters on Tuesday that he wants to stay beyond the upcoming season.

“It’s been amazing,” Goff said of his Detroit tenure, which began in March 2021, according to Eric Woodyard of ESPN. “I enjoy being here and hope to stay for a long time. It’s been incredibly amazing to play in front of these supporters and be able to give a winning culture over the last year and a half, and to have them experience it and be a part of it has been enjoyable. However, we are not satisfied or delighted to be here. It’s about what happens next.

Goff’s presence and performances were critical for the 2023 Lions club, which met and even exceeded expectations on its way to the NFC Championship Game.

According to ESPN Stats, he concluded the regular season ranked 11th among qualified players with a 60.3 adjusted QBR, second with 4,575 passing yards, and fourth with 30 passing touchdowns.

According to Tim Twentyman of the Lions’ website, head coach Dan Campbell indicated in March that completing an extension with Goff by Week One of the 2024 season is a major priority for the franchise.

On Tuesday, Goff insisted he trusts his agent and Lions general manager Brad Holmes regarding contract discussions.

“The last three years have really been fun,” Goff said of his time with the Lions, which includes leading them to their first playoff win since January 1992. “Not always easy, but enjoyable and challenging. And I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by many terrific teammates and coaches who have helped me achieve some of my potential, with the hope that there is much more to come. But I’ve really enjoyed winning in this city and for these fans.”

Goff stated that he has “grown mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually… all that” since the day he was dealt by the Los Angeles Rams to Detroit more than three years ago.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Lions tied for fourth among betting favorites, with +1200 odds to win Super Bowl LIX in February 2025.
