Multiple reports indicate that Alabama center James Brockermeyer has entered the transfer portal. After Seth McLaughlin left the Crimson Tide, Brockermeyer competed for the starting role.
The news was initially reported by On3’s Pete Nakos. Brockermeyer allegedly has a no-contact tag in the gateway.
Brockermeyer appeared to hold an advantage over the starting center competition in Tuscaloosa. He was competing with Washington transfer Parker Brailsford, who had not been training with the Crimson Tide due to unclear personal reasons.
“He’s done a really good job,” Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said of Brockermeyer after the team’s second scrimmage of spring practice. “He’s got a lot of opportunities to take a lot of snaps, and hanging in there. The communication has been clean.”
Brockermeyer was the Tide’s primary backup center last season, behind McLaughlin, who transferred to Ohio State after the 2023 campaign. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Texas native spent three seasons in Tuscaloosa and will be a redshirt junior at his next destination.
He joined the Crimson Tide as a four-star recruit prior to the 2021 season. He was the top center in the class, according to the 247Sports composite ratings.
His brother, Tommy Brockermeyer, joined him in Alabama before transferring to TCU for the 2023 season.
