Milwaukee Brewers designated hitter Christian Yelich (22) hits a 2-run home run in the first inning of the MLB baseball game between Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

After being placed on the injured list with lower back concerns almost three weeks ago, Milwaukee Brewers’ former MVP Christian Yelich was reinstated on Wednesday, the team reported on Twitter (X).

Milwaukee Brewers’ Christian Yelich Returns to Lineup

Before Milwaukee’s thrilling 6-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, Sophia Minneart of Bally Sports reported that Yelich was taking batting practice for the first time in three weeks.

The 12-year veteran was off to a hot start of the 2024 season, hitting five home runs in his first 39 at-bats. While it didn’t look certain as to when Yelich would make his anticipated return, he did start playing catch in the field about a week and a half ago, which was a positive sign to a speedy recovery.

Yelich will start in Wednesday’s game as the team’s DH, hitting third in the series finale against Kansas City.

Tyler Black Optioned to Triple-A

In his brief time in the big leagues, Milwaukee’s fourth-top prospect Tyler Black came at a time where the Brewers needed a little help offensively. In his 117 plate appearances with the Nashville Sounds, he was slashing .303/.393/.525 with five home runs and 18 driven in.

Many were excited about Black’s debut, manager Pat Murphy saying that Black is “a really good athlete and moves really well left to right. It’s just experience he lacks.” Black did share honors of Minor League Player of the Year in 2023 with Jackson Chourio, who made his big league debut on Opening Day with the Brewers.

In his debut, Black hit a stand-up double to kick off the third inning against the Tampa Bay Rays. In his second at-bat appearance, his dad was lucky enough to be the one to broadcast the call.

“That’s a base hit for my boy, Tyler Black, 2 for 2,” Rod Black stated on the Bally Sports broadcast when Sophia Minneart handed him the microphone to discuss what his debut meant to the family.
