Summer acquisition for Aston Villa Considering his recent performances, Youri Tielemans may already be regretting his choice to join Villa Park.

The four-year deal, which was reportedly an exorbitant pay package, was signed by the Belgian international on July 1 after his contract at Leicester City expired.

The midfielder had been heavily sought after by numerous major clubs for a number of years, but Emery convinced him to join the Villans when they advanced to the Europa Conference League the previous season.

After a few months, the seasoned Premier League midfielder has struggled in his new environment due to some underwhelming performances when given the chance as well as a dearth of starts with his new squad.

Speaking to the media while on international duty [DH les Sports, 8 September], the Belgian made apparent his displeasure with how Unai Emery has utilized him since his summer transfer from Leicester City [DH les Sports], having only been given late replacement appearances in the Premier League.

It will take some time for Tielemans to establish himself in Emery’s starting lineup because Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamar have established themselves as the preferred midfield partnership since Emery’s hiring in October 2022.

The former Leicester City star, however, has failed to persuade Emery that he is a deserving regular in his starting eleven when given the chance, suggesting that he may already be second-guessing his transfer choice.

On Wednesday (27 September), the Belgian international made just his third start for Villa against Everton as Unai Emery tried to give him the chance to shine against the Toffees. He failed to deliver once more after a lackluster performance when given the chance against Legia Warsaw in the Europa Conference League.

Tielemans received a 5.9 rating from SofaScore, the lowest of any player on the field, to highlight how miserable his evening was.
