The Detroit Lions were one of the NFL’s most surprising teams last season.

After years of disappointment and grief, the Lions finally won the NFC North for the first time in franchise history.

They didn’t stop there, as they went on to make the NFC Championship, nearly beating the San Francisco 49ers.

While they fell short of a Super Bowl appearance and potential victory, this was a step in the right direction for the organization.

Now that the Lions have proven that they can compete with the top teams in the league, they have made several moves in the offseason to keep their momentum moving.

The front office has already doled out contract extensions to Amon Ra St. Brown, Penei Sewell, and Jared Goff, an indication that they are keeping this core together.

Former Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman recently appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio, where he highlighted what this means to the team.

“That goes a long way down in that locker room,” Spielman said.

Spielman indicated that, with these signings, the locker room will be fired up heading into the 2024 season.

The players who just received contract extensions are more motivated to play well, and their teammates now know what it takes to get a big contract.

With any luck, this will inspire the Lions to keep building upon what they have, moving forward with confidence.

This doesn’t feel like a team that was a bottom-feeder for so many years, a sign of how far the organizational culture has come.
