The Milwaukee Brewers made a few roster changes ahead of their series finale against the Los Angeles Angels. Tyler Black, an infielder, was recalled from Triple-A, as did Bradley Blalock, a right-handed pitcher from Double-A. Infielder Oliver Dunn was optioned, while pitcher Elieser Hernandez was designated for assignment.

This is Tyler Black and Bradley Blalock’s second stint with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Earlier this year both Tyler Black and Bradley Blalock had tenures in the big leagues.  Black received 22 at-bats, collected five hits, and stole two bases.  Blalock was promoted to the big leagues but did not appear in a game.

What is the Brewers plan for Tyler Black and Bradley Blalock?

Manager Pat Murphy has not announced what the definitive plan is for each of these players but with the Brewers set to see four consecutive right-handed starting pitchers Thursday-Monday against the San Diego Padres it is likely that Tyler Black will get some playing time either as the designated hitter or at first base.  Bradley Blalock on the other hand is replacing reliever Elieser Hernandez.  This means that it may take a low leverage situation to present in order for Blalock to appear in a game.

Could the Milwaukee Brewers promoting Tyler Black spell doom for one other player?

Upon being drafted in 2021 Tyler Black spent the 2022 minor league season playing all over the infield as well as outfield.  In 2023 Black started the year off by playing third base, but eventually started seeing game action at first base.  With current Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins on a short term deal and Jake Bauers out of minor league options it’s likely that Milwaukee views Black as a key piece of their first base picture.  Bauer’s has struggled lately so if Black can provide a spark it’s possible that Bauer’s tenure could be coming to an end soon.
