College football’s free agency period is upon us with the opening of the transfer portal Monday, Dec. 4.
The portal is a complex system, but the general rundown of it is players are allowed to enter their name into it beginning Monday and is open until Jan. 2, 2024 . All players who have not earned their bachelors degree must enter before the Jan. 2 date, otherwise they must wait until it reopens for a 15-day period April 16.
There is no date by which players must be committed to their school and players are allowed to withdraw themselves.
Graduate students who have earned their degrees and have a remaining year of eligibility are able to enter the transfer portal at any time.
The following is a list of players who have entered the transfer portal, leaving Oregon as well as players that Oregon State will be bringing in for next season.
Transferring out
Sione Lolohea, EDGE: Oregon State starting edge rusher Sione Lolohea entered the transfer portal Jan 5., per Chris Hummer of 247Sports.
Lolohea set a new career high for tackles in 2023, recording 46 as well as recording one and a half sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. He was named to the Pac-12’s all-conference second team in 2023 for his performance.
Lolohea will be entering his final year of eligibility, wherever he choose to transfer to.
Silas Bolden, WR: The Beavs’ leading receiver in 2023 revealed on Twitter that he will enter the portal on January 1.
Bolden had 54 receptions for 746 yards and five touchdowns in 2023. He finished his career at Corvallis with 1,076 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Bolden was also a danger as a returner, making the Pac-12 All-Conference second team in 2023 with 105 yards and one touchdown on five attempts.
He played in the Beavs bowl game versus Notre Dame, but exited the game at the half with an injury.
A senior, Bolden will be entering his final year of eligibility.
DJ Uiagalelei, QB: The Beavers’ starting quarterback for the 2023 season announced his intention to enter the portal Nov. 30 after a single season in Corvallis.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on December 12 that Uiagalelei will make an official visit to Florida State over the weekend.
Uiagalelei confirmed his commitment to Florida State on January 1 and will enter his final year of eligibility.
Aidan Chiles, quarterback: Chiles, who served as Uiagalelei’s backup but saw regular playing time, also entered the portal on Monday, December 4.
Chiles visited Michigan State with his parents last week, according to SBLive. Chiles declared his commitment to Michigan State on Twitter on December 14, following his former coach Jonathan Smith’s move to East Lansing.
Easton Mascarenas-Arnold is an ILB.Arnold confirmed via Instagram that he has entered the transfer portal on Friday, December 8.
The inside linebacker led the Beavers with 106 tackles and finished second in the Pac-12, earning All-Conference First Team recognition.
Mascarenas-Arnold announced on Instagram Saturday that he has committed to USC. He’ll have one year of eligibility left.
Akili Arnold, S: Mascarenas-Arnold’s stepbrother, hinted at his intention to transfer on Instagram; Jake Hedberg of 247Sports later confirmed the claim.
In 2023, the safety made 62 tackles and had two interceptions. Arnold, who has been at Oregon State since 2019, is approaching his final year of eligibility.
Arnold announced on Instagram Saturday that he has committed to USC.
Jack Velling, TE: The Pac-12 All-Conference Second Team selection decided to use the transfer site, he announced on Twitter on December 6.
