Yesterday, it was reported that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Nelson Semedo is wanted by West Ham United.

Nelson Semedo, a right-back for Wolves, is reportedly firmly on West Ham’s radar ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report from Football Transfers.

Now, if David Moyes brings him to the London Stadium this winter, I reckon that the majority of Hammers fans will be over the moon

The West Ham players will surely welcome the arrival of someone like Semedo as well, what with his incredible pace, athleticism and all-round ability

However, there will be one Hammer in particular who might not be too happy if the Wolves man rocks up at the London Stadium in January…

For one player, the news of Nelson Semedo joining West Ham would be disastrous.

Vladimir Coufal is currently enjoying somewhat of a renaissance at the London Stadium this season.

The 31-year-old right-back has bagged three assists already this term and seems to be back to somewhere near his best.

He’s a very strong right-back, and was once described as ‘incredible’ by ex-footballer Michael Brown.

However, if West Ham want to make some genuine progress, Moyes has to sign a proper right-back with rapid speed – more of a modern day, progressive type player.

That might sound harsh, but it’s true. And although Semedo will be 30 in November, he is one of the fastest right-backs around.

If the Portugal international arrives at the London Stadium in January, it could very well be the end of Coufal at West Ham – certainly as a regular starter.

I think Nelson Semedo would be a fantastic addition for West Ham, as long as he doesn’t cost anything more than £15 million or so. He’d be a clear upgrade on Coufal as far as I’m concerned.

The 31-year-old recently admitted that he would probably sign a new contract if offered one by the Hammers. Whether that ever becomes a reality remains to be seen though.

If Semedo does arrive at West Ham this winter, I highly doubt that the Czech Republic international will feature regularly for us anymore.

The 29-year-old will only have 18 months left on his contract at Molineux in January, so he might be offered for a low price. And Moyes must bring him to the team without delay.
