David Gilmour has revealed three classic Pink Floyd songs that he won’t play live.
The guitarist was an integral member of the prog giants, helping to take their adventurous, left-of-centre ideas to a global audience. The band’s time together is over, but David Gilmour remains creative, recently releasing a brand new solo album.
Tour dates are scheduled – including a stint at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall – and David Gilmour is in the process of picking out his set list.
Fans can expect a few classic Pink Floyd numbers – but there might be a few disappointments.
Speaking to MOJO, David Gilmour explained that he feels uncomfortable performing certain Pink Floyd songs, citing a question of “ownership” and content.
“There are songs from the past that I no longer feel comfortable singing. I love ‘Run Like Hell’. I loved the music I created for it, but all that ‘You’d better run, run, run…’ I now find that all rather, I don’t know… a bit terrifying and violent.”
The guitarist added: “‘Another Brick In The Wall’ is another one I shan’t be doing. I don’t think I’ve done that with my own band, but I certainly did it in the post-Roger Pink Floyd, against my better judgment. The same with ‘Money’. I won’t be doing that.”
The set list will congregate around songs he was actively involved in creating, with David Gilmour explaining: “I’m going to be sticking with the ones that are essentially my music, and I feel some ownership of. ‘Comfortably Numb’, ‘Wish You Were Here’, ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’, maybe…”
