Joey Logano has opened up about his mindset that has seen him become a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion. The reigning Cup king defended his “selfish” mentality as he explained his approach to life and racing.
The 34-year-old Team Penske star sealed his third Cup Series title in seven years to cement his name among the best to have ever competed in NASCAR. Logano’s determination has often seen him labelled as “selfish” on track, but it’s a term that he doesn’t shy away from.
Speaking to NASCAR veteran Kenny Wallace on his YouTube channel, Logano revealed how he has had to be “selfish” but explained that his mentality only applies to the track.
“If you lived your life that way when you got out of the car, you’d not be that good of a person and you probably wouldn’t have any friends and you’d live by yourself he said .
Being a race car driver gives you the opportunity to be someone completely different. It’s actually celebrated. Like you can put your helmet on and be the biggest selfish b–thole you’ve ever met. And it’s what you’re supposed to do. That’s what the job is to be selfish and go out there and win.”
