Clemson Recruits Share Emotional Commitment Videos to Dabo Swinney’s Tigers

Clemson’s latest recruits surprise Dabo Swinney with heartfelt commitment videos, solidifying their future with the Tigers.

Clemson’s recruiting efforts are soaring to new heights, and the excitement around the Tigers’ program is palpable. Recently, a few top recruits made their commitments to Clemson in unforgettable ways—sharing moments of joy and enthusiasm with Dabo Swinney that captured the heart of Clemson football’s culture.

The first standout moment came from offensive lineman Chancellor Barclay. What was supposed to be just another call turned into a monumental decision. Barclay, who had not planned on committing that day, FaceTimed Coach Swinney with news that left Dabo in shock. “I’ve got some bad news,” Barclay began, setting Dabo on edge. “You’re going to have to deal with me for the next 3 to 4 years, because I’m committing to Clemson.”

Dabo’s surprised reaction was priceless. “WHAT?!” he exclaimed, taken off guard by Barclay’s sudden announcement. Barclay continued, “Yes, sir. We’re committing to Clemson.” Dabo laughed, shaking his head in disbelief, while Barclay explained that he had heard something during Clemson’s Elite Retreat that spoke to him deeply. “I didn’t really plan on committing today,” Barclay said. “But the Lord had different plans.”

The emotional connection to the Clemson program was just as strong with Grant Wise, an interior offensive lineman. While still on campus for the Elite Retreat, Wise filmed a video from inside Dabo Swinney’s office that revealed his decision to commit. Holding a small item he had brought from home—something Dabo had given him in the past—Wise told the coach, “Something told me to bring this with me this weekend, because I want to be a Clemson Tiger.”

Dabo’s response was electric. He immediately rushed over to Wise, giving him a big hug while cheering, “That’s my guy right there!” New offensive line coach Matt Luke also joined the celebration, offering Wise a warm embrace of his own. The joy in the room was infectious, as Wise’s decision was not just a commitment to a football program, but to a family—a Clemson family.

These recruiting moments aren’t just about football; they’re a testament to the power of culture, faith, and genuine connection. For many of these young athletes, including Barclay and Wise, committing to Clemson wasn’t just about choosing a football program—it was about choosing a place where they felt supported, valued, and welcomed into a family.
