The renowned Williams Racing F1 team’s official esports team is called Williams Esports. Established in 2018, the esports branch was the first time a Formula 1 team has its own factory esports team. From the company’s founding, Williams Esports drivers have participated in a wide range of events and games, such as Petit Le Mans, Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup, and eNASCAR.

The Student Racing League’s first official season was revealed after a successful pilot program that took place during the 2022–2023 academic year. There were ten pilot centers in all for the pilot project.

A total of 30 schools and colleges from the UK will compete against each other during the season, ending with a LAN final at the Williams F1 headquarters in Oxfordshire. Williams Esports has also partnered with the British Esports Federation to educate students on the benefits of sim racing and esports.

Williams Esports Director Steven English said, “We are excited to launch the Student Racing League to introduce competitive sim racing to an ever-growing number of schools, colleges, and universities.” Here at Williams Esports, our goal is to promote esports alongside more conventional sports in academic competition and provide avenues for the next generation to develop a passion for racing.

“The Student Racing League offers a new platform for students to engage in their enthusiasm for racing, as well as to learn critical skills in performance and operational roles in a rapidly expanding business, giving students who aspire to jobs in the field invaluable experience and development.”
