Florida State University (FSU) has extended an offer to Georgia Southern senior linebacker Marques Watson-Trent, aiming to bolster their defensive lineup following a challenging 2-10 season.
Watson-Trent, a 5-foot-11, 225-pound athlete from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, has been a standout performer for Georgia Southern. Over his collegiate career, he has accumulated 356 tackles, demonstrating remarkable consistency with over 100 tackles in each of the past three seasons. His 2024 season was particularly impressive, earning him the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors.
In 2024, Watson-Trent recorded 120 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles, showcasing his ability to disrupt opposing offenses. His performance in previous seasons was equally notable, with 122 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and two interceptions in 2023, and 114 tackles, six tackles for loss, and one sack in 2022.
FSU’s interest in Watson-Trent comes amid significant roster changes, including the addition of Nebraska transfer linebacker Stefon Williams. The Seminoles are looking to enhance their defensive capabilities after a season that prompted substantial adjustments.
The transfer visit window opens on January 1, and FSU is keen to have Watson-Trent visit Tallahassee during this period. With one year of eligibility remaining, his potential addition could provide immediate impact and leadership to the Seminoles’ defense.
Watson-Trent’s extensive experience, with over 2,500 snaps across 49 games, positions him as a valuable asset for FSU. His proven track record of productivity and resilience makes him a prime candidate to contribute significantly to the Seminoles’ defensive unit in the upcoming season.
As FSU continues to navigate the transfer portal, securing a player of Watson-Trent’s caliber would be a strategic move to strengthen their roster and improve performance in the forthcoming season.
