Georgia Bulldog fans received some devastating news this week when the team announced that star tight end Brock Bowers would be receiving surgery to repair a sprained ankle he suffered against the Vanderbilt Commodores this past Saturday.

Bowers has since received the famous “tight-rope” surgery and is now in the process of recovering. Head coach Kirby Smart provided an update on Bowers’ status during a media presser Tuesday afternoon.

“Yea, I don’t think it’s as much about any of that as much as it is about the more I’ve learned about this tight-rope surgery. It’s not just us, it’s other teams, philosophically, to get back healthy you need to get back on that ankle as soon as you can to get back healthy. Brock will be on the same timeline as everyone else, but the key is to get him healthy, there is no timeline from it. Historically some guys come back really fast, some guys don’t.”

The Georgia Bulldogs’ 2023 season will conclude this Saturday as they face the unbeaten Florida State Seminoles in the legendary Orange Bowl Game. This will be the first encounter between the two teams in more than 20 years, and the Bulldogs’ first trip to the Orange Bowl since a beating of the Michigan Wolverines in 2021.

With the Orange Bowl not having any College Football Playoff or national championship ramifications, many players have expectedly begun to announce that they will be opting out of the game. Although Brock Bowers and Amarius Mims have not made an official announcement as to whether or not they are playing, reports indicate that they did not travel with the team to Miami.

Both Bowers and Mims have been tabbed by many experts to be first-round locks for the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft and have both already recieved surgeries this season to repair ankle injuries. Given their high draft expectancy and recent history with injuries, it should come as no surprise that the highly talented Bulldogs will likely not be playing in Saturday’s contest.
