DONE DEAL: Leeds United’s favourites have approved of the verbal agreement development.

Hull City’s prospects of acquiring Burnley winger Manuel Benson are fading, with Leeds United emerging as favourites in the race for his services, according to Hull Live.

According to the online news outlet (27 January), City had a verbal agreement with Burnley to sign Benson on loan until the end of the season, but that agreement appears to have fallen through, with the Belgian yet to make a decision and attracting interest from other Championship clubs, including Leeds.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri originally reported on Leeds’ interest in the player earlier this month (18 January), claiming that the Whites expected Wilfried Gnonto to join West Ham United and were hence preparing Benson as a substitute.

Despite the fact that Gnonto is expected to sign a new contract at Elland Road rather than leave the club this month, Leeds continue to lead the way for Benson, who has been told he can leave Turf Moor, with Tavolieri revealing in an update this week (25 January) that the Whites are now “pushing” for the forward.

This would be a fantastic addition to Daniel Farke’s squad as they continue to push for an instant return to the Premier League.

Benson appeared in three of Burnley’s first five matches after returning to England’s top tier, but he has struggled for game time subsequently, with Vincent Kompany’s side finding life in the Premier League challenging.

Nonetheless, Benson remains a talented player who is well-versed in the Championship. Last season, the 26-year-old scored 13 goals and assisted three times as Burnley won the title.

He will be keen to return to the pitch and demonstrate his abilities, and what better place to do it than at a club that is now soaring high in the Championship.
