After another dismal season that could have easily ended with an AFC playoff berth, the Pittsburgh Steelers punched their ticket to the postseason, only to be defeated on the road by a much stronger Buffalo Bills team headed by superstar quarterback Josh Allen.
Even though the Steelers made the playoffs despite a forgettable season that was a nightmare offensively, Pittsburgh’s brass appears to be growing irritated with the same results year after year.
There was some concern that longstanding head coach Mike Tomlin might be on the hot seat in Pittsburgh or that he might want to leave, but that turned out not to be the case, as he stated that he wanted to return next season and received backing from the front office.
Team owner Art Rooney II recently made some odd statements regarding Tomlin, which, according to ESPN’s Brooky Pryor, appear to explain why the team still believes he can manage this team from the sidelines.
“He can captivate a group of 20-year-olds for an entire season, keeping them engaged throughout. … “If we didn’t believe Mike could lead us to a championship, he wouldn’t be here, which is why he is,” Rooney said.
The Steelers’ actual problem appears to be at quarterback and offensive coordinator, as the club struggled on that side of the ball this season, leading to the team parting company with Matt Canada during the regular season.
Along with firing their offensive coordinator throughout the season, second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett did not appear to be the solution under center, which means the team may look into other possibilities during the NFL summer, whether it is another rookie or a veteran in free agency.
