T.J. Hockenson underwent surgery on his right knee to address the damage he received on December 24 against the Detroit Lions, more than a month after tearing his ACL.

The outstanding tight end for the Minnesota Vikings underwent surgery on Monday, delaying the procedure to allow the MCL injury in the same knee to heal. The operation was carried out in Los Angeles by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who frequently performs this surgery for NFL players.

The Vikings have not released a recovery schedule for Hockenson.

Prior to the end-of-season injury, Hockenson, who inked a four-year, $66 million contract deal in August, was having a breakthrough year. His 960 receiving yards in his first full season in Minneapolis were third in the NFL, while his 95 catches were second-best at his position.

In the third quarter, after Hockenson went up for a 24-yard reception, Lions safety Kerby Joseph struck him in the knee. Hockenson was eventually removed from the field at U.S. Bank Stadium after he lay on the grass in pain.

After all, Minnesota, who was in the running for the postseason, lost to the eventual NFC North champions 30–24. The Vikings concluded the season with a 7-10 record after a four-game losing streak.
