The Rebels are once again proving their worth in the transfer portal, as North Carolina transfer offensive lineman Diego Pounds has committed to Ole Miss. The left tackle will be a redshirt junior with two years of eligibility after playing in all 13 games for the Tar Heels this season. This is a significant addition for Ole Miss.
The 6-foot-6, 330-pound Pounds was listed as the Tar Heels’ backup left tackle in their season opener against South Carolina, but he moved into the starting lineup against Appalachian State in Week 2. He played every offensive action in the game and made eight starts for the season.
Pounds is the third-ranked offensive tackle in the transfer portal and can play both tackle positions. He will have a chance to be a day-one starter for the Rebs in 2024.
The North Carolina native attended Millbrook High School where he was rated as a three-star offensive tackle. Besides North Carolina, Pounds received offers from Alabama, LSU, Oregon, and Miami.
“He’s huge, he’s got great feet, and he’s smart,” North Carolina head coach Mack Brown said of Pounds back in August.
Despite the fact that John Garrison and the Rebs have added another star lineman, their work in the trenches is far from finished. Ole Miss is still looking for portal prospects Percy Lewis (Mississippi State) and Lance Heard (LSU).
