Detroit Lions fire DBs coach Aubrey Pleasant - Pride Of Detroit

Coach Dan Campbell announced Monday during a press conference that Aubrey Pleasant, the defensive backs coach for the Lions, has been sacked. What you should know is as follows:

The Dolphins defeated Detroit 31–27 on Sunday, their fifth straight loss.

This past winter, Pleasant was in high demand as a coach, having interviews for positions as defensive coordinators with several different teams.
This season, the Lions are 1-6. O

Background: Pleasant was the cornerbacks coach for the Rams for four seasons prior to joining the Lions staff in 2021. After playing his first season in Detroit, he went on interviews to be the defensive coordinator for Minnesota and New Orleans.

Over the summer, he was named one of The Athletic’s NFL 40 under 40.

What made the coaching change happen?

n Sunday, they take on the Packers.

The Athletic’s immediate assessment:

The big takeaway from this is that Detroit’s secondary has been a complete failure from the start of the Campbell era and still is. This year, Jeff Okudah has improved and is currently having one of his best on-field seasons as a professional. But the remainder of the gang is disorganised. Amani Oruwariye, the starting cornerback, has permitted almost 79 percent of targets against to be completed this season, according to PFF. He had a rough 7-for-7 performance against Miami on Sunday. After Sunday’s defeat, Campbell claimed to have made up his mind early on Monday morning. However, judging by his remarks on Monday, this has been developing for a few weeks. He described it as a collection of items. Detroit’s defence has given up an NFL-worst 32.1 points per game and the sixth-most passing yards per week. It is a “production-based business,” as he put it. He stated that he wanted the lesson to be communicated a little more effectively, emphasising the necessity for coaches and the students to communicate well and reduce mental mistakes. – Pouncy
