The New England Patriots appear to have an outrageous amount of cap money to spend on numerous elite free agents this spring, based on some recent rumours and conjecture.

The Patriots were anticipated to have a significant amount of cap room to spend on free agents who may bolster the roster going into this summer. Additionally, with new head coach Jerod Mayo guiding the squad following a 4-13 season, the organisation is motivated to make some significant moves on the free market.

According to OverTheCap, New England now has little over $77 million in cap space. But according to a recent rumour, the wage limit would increase by a stunning $30 million beyond initial projections, reaching a maximum of $255 million for each team.

If the Patriots cut CB JC Jackson, they would have even more room to manoeuvre. They would have to spend an additional $14 million to remove him from their payroll, and his deal has no dead cap money attached. The Pats might have well over $100 million to spend when they enter NFL free agency in 2024 if they decide to go that course.

Let’s take a look at five elite players they might still pursue to help them become a legitimate competitor in the AFC East next season. Of course, there are some guys they will try to keep who would eat into that number.

The New England Patriots might target five-star free agents with their enormous financial resources.
Cousin Kirk

The quarterback position on the New England Patriots squad is one of their most obvious vulnerabilities going into the upcoming season. Since Mac Jones was a complete bust in the previous season, strengthening the most crucial position on the pitch will take precedence. It is highly probable that they may target Kirk Cousins, a four-time Pro Bowl player, given the enormous amount of money at their disposal.

When healthy, he has performed like a top-tier signal caller the past two seasons, and he would greatly improve the offensive line. Additionally, it would enable the team to choose wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with the third overall pick in the April draft. An athlete with exceptional potential.
