Georgia running back Trevor Etienne was arrested early Sunday on DUI, reckless driving, and other charges, according to jail records.
Etienne, the Bulldogs’ expected starting running back, was booked into the Athens-Clark County Jail at 4:35 a.m. and released less than an hour later on bond of approximately $1,800. According to the documents, the other offenses include failure to maintain a lane, incorrect driving, and affixing objects that impede vision via the windows or windshield.
It was not immediately known whether Etienne had retained a lawyer.
The university issued a statement confirming the arrest but declining to speak further.
Etienne, 19, is a midyear transfer from Florida, where he led the Gators with nine touchdowns last season and established himself as one of the team’s most dangerous playmakers. He is the younger brother of former Clemson standout and Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne and still has two years of eligibility.
Coach Kirby Smart admitted last year that he was having to find ways to encourage his players to drive responsibly. In January 2023, hours after Georgia won its second national title in a row, offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy were killed in a wreck while racing with defensive tackle Jalen Carter.
In 2023, at least 15 traffic incidents included Bulldog football players traveling at high speeds, including three cases of driving under the influence, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
According to team policy, athletes who are guilty of DUI must serve at least one game ban. Georgia’s season opener will be against Clemson on August 31.
