James Coley, the newly appointed wide receivers coach, opted over the weekend to take the same position at Georgia, filling the gap left by former Bulldogs assistant Bryan McClendon’s hiring by the Tampa Bay Bucs. Coley made the decision with family in mind, as he had previously spent four years with the Bulldogs, which ended following the 2019 season when he joined Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M. While I am sure Beamer can appreciate Coley’s decision, it is still a bit of a slap in the face given Coley’s wife and Shane Beamer’s wife

are really tight, and this was one of the key reasons Coley chose the South Carolina post in the first place. Still, it is impossible to condemn him for accepting a position with what has been college football’s top team for the past three years and has provided as a springboard for assistants to other institutions. It is more about the timing of the choice, as he has just been in Columbia for less than a month and half.

We hope to learn more about particular prospects to replace Coley shortly, but with spring practice starting in three weeks, I anticipate Beamer to move as swiftly as possible. He’ll want to give
