‘Don’t expect to see me again,’ says Jermaine Beckford of Leeds United’s problem and solution.
Jermaine Beckford, a Whites icon, has identified a Leeds United issue that he does not expect to see again.

Daniel Farke’s Whites went into Saturday’s Championship showdown at Southampton unbeaten in their previous six games, but they were defeated 3-1 after trailing 3-0 at the break. The Saints came into the game having lost their previous four games, but Beckford felt the home side’s straightforward game plan “threw” Leeds as part of a “uncharacteristic” performance from the Whites.

Beckford stated on Sky Sports after the game that he did not expect to see such a performance again, but quickly referred to Wednesday night’s game against QPR as an opportunity to bounce back.

“I think Southampton’s game-plan completely threw Leeds United off,” stated Beckford. “It was very frustrating because they never seemed to get into a rhythm.” They had the most balls, especially in the first half.

“Southampton were fantastic; they moved the ball really well, they didn’t keep the ball at the back as I expected, and they changed their game plan very quickly and very cleverly.” Leeds United put in an out-of-character performance that I don’t expect to see again very soon.”

When pressed on the necessity to keep going after suffering a second defeat of the season, Beckford explained: “The best way to get over a loss is to have another game a couple of days away, which is exactly what Leeds United have.”

“Wednesday night’s game is going to be crucial.” It’s also on Elland Road, so they’ll have the support of the Elland Road faithful. And, to be honest, I doubt we’ll see another performance like that from Leeds United. They were second to nothing, they looked a touch lanky, but Southampton were fantastic, nothing can take that away from them.”
