Leeds United are edging closer to a January window where outgoings are going to be more prevalent than incomings, but it will likely only be fringe players getting moves away

Leeds had to navigate an entire summer of speculation around their best players potentially leaving, with a lot of them securing exits away through loan moves – while it could be strongly argued they weren’t the club’s ‘best’ or most important players anyway With January around the corner, there is bound to be more talk about who could leave, but Daniel Farke’s comments this week indicate that the only players that could leave aren’t playing or won’t have a chance of playing

The omission of Charlie Cresswell and Joe Gelhardt from a lot of matchday squads this season has no doubt been frustrating for the pair, but as an example, they are two players that the manager won’t be considering letting go.

When asked about that sort of outgoing transfer in January, Farke said this, per the

I don’t see why a player who is important for us, who I rate as important for us and who we rate to be important, why we should let him go and become weaker in January. No, we want to be successful by the end of the season and instead of getting weaker we want to get even better

“For that, I don’t see any player who is valuable and important for us to leave in January. Yes, if you are perhaps position no 26 in our squad anyhow then we can speak about if it is a young player if it makes sense to loan him out to give him some game time for his development because it is beneficial for the mid and the long term

“But there are not 11 key players for me, there are definitely 17-18-19 players who each have the chance to be in each and every game in the starting line-up, I don’t see that any key player should leave. If we let one of these key players leave then something really extraordinary has to happen but I don’t see this in January if I am honestOthers, who have had to get their action with the Under 21s like Lewis Bate and Darko Gyabi, sound more likely to be successful if they make requests to go out on loan

Back in the summer, Bate was subject to several offers to go out on loan or leave the club permanently, while Gyabi was part of a chaotic deadline day that saw him wanted in three leagues both in England and abroad.

As much as Farke has made it clear that those around the first team group will not be leaving, these two look certain to be allowed out on loan.

They’ve been frozen out of plans completely since August, playing only in the under-21s, which will be doing nothing for their development.

As it was proven in the summer, they won’t be short of interest either, given that they had offers from a variety of clubs
