NHRA Champion John Force is continuing to heal after being released from the hospital on Tuesday. Force was med-flighted from VCU Medical hospital to a neurological rehab hospital to continue treatment for his traumatic brain injury. The 16-time titleholder was wounded in a crash during the first round of funny car eliminations at the PLAYNHRA Virginia Nationals last month. According to the John Force Racing Team, his engine exploded, causing his Funny Car to crash into a concrete wall at speeds over 300 mph.

On July 5, the John Force racing team reported that Force, 75, sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI), a fractured sternum, and a right wrist injury in the collision. The grandfather of five has also regained his balance and began walking with the assistance of medical personnel. Medical personnel do acknowledge that the road ahead is still difficult as Force continues to battle with cognitive and behavioral effects from the TBI. “Family members said that no timetable had been established for the length of Force’s stay at the new facility,” the team informed me. “Which was selected because of its success in treating other race car drivers with similar issues.”
