Quite a few rock music fans would probably assume that an artist being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a big deal. But certain artists have shunned the Hall and even refused to show up for their induction, including David Bowie, the Sex Pistols, three-quarters of the classic Van Halen line-up, etc.
During an interview with the Scars and Guitars Podcast, former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone voiced his disapproval of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame despite the iconic punk band being inducted in 2002. In addition, he admitted that, while the Ramones are possibly now more popular than ever, it was seemingly an uphill climb the entire time the band was still in business.
“I was very vocal about the fact that the Ramones were almost purposefully left out of anything mainstream for most of their career,” Ramone said (transcribed by Ultimate Guitar). “There was an interview that we did at one point while I was in the band with Rolling Stone.”
And we did make some appearances on MTV, but it was usually because a writer or a DJ was a fan, or VJ, and talked their bosses into letting them do something on the Ramones. It wasn’t like the Ramones were ever supported by any of the radio stations or MTV or anything like that. So it didn’t bother me then. It doesn’t bother me now.”
