The San Antonio Spurs suffered a down-to-the-wire loss against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night. After trading buckets back and forth down the stretch, they came up short in a tight 120-115 ball game. The Spurs struggled containing Anthony Davis. The Lakers superstar erupted for 40 points on the evening, shooting 14 of 26 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free throw line. There was a troubling moment in the game between Davis and Spurs star Victor Wembanyama. The two collided awkwardly during the fourth quarter on one of Davis’ shot attempts, resulting in their knees connecting. Wembanyama exited the game in the process, with the medical staff taking a look at the potential injury in the tunnel.
This was naturally a point of discussion in the post-game press conference. However, the Spurs’ sophomore sensation reassured everyone in the room that there was mostly nothing to worry about. “[I’m] a little beat up right now,” Wembanyama told reporters. “I took a big hit, but it’s just a hit. I didn’t twist nothing, so I’m good. …This is not a big deal. If ever [there is a point] tomorrow [where it’s] horrible, of course I would be smart, but it should be all right.”
Wembanyama turned in a solid performance against the Lakers, despite some tough defensive coverage. He notched 28 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and one steal.
