Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has spoken out about potential injury concerns ahead of Monday’s Premier League match against Fulham. Son and his colleagues have had a fantastic start to the 2023/24 season, with the prolific attacker scoring six goals in his first eight league appearances this season.
Spurs have climbed to the top of the standings, ahead of local rivals Arsenal on goals scored, with the two north London clubs both having 20 points and a plus-ten goal difference. However, the South Korean international seemed to be injured during his country’s victory over Vietnam.
At half time, with Jurgen Klinsmann’s side 2-0 up, Son was seen limping to the tunnel, sparking significant concerns that he may have picked up a muscular issue. But the 31-year-old did return after the break and scored in what ended up being a 6-0 victory
After the full-time whistle, Son revealed it was his decision to play the game in the end. He told Korean journalist Sungmo Lee: “I discussed with the gaffer (Klinsmann) and said I will play the game as I cannot forgive myself if I don’t play for Korea national team in front of Korean fans when I already return to Korea”
The collective sigh of relief from Tottenham supporters will now be heard in the days leading up to Monday’s home match against Fulham. The encounter between the Lilywhites and the Cottagers in September ended 1-1 in regulation time before Marco Silva’s team prevailed 5-3 on penalties. The Lilywhites will be looking to exact revenge on the Cottagers.
